Pella High School’s renowned jazz program is set to defend three consecutive championships this week. Pella Jazz I will compete for the school’s 21st state title in Class 3A Tuesday at the Iowa Jazz Championships in Ames. The band is set to perform at 1:45 in the afternoon in an attempt to qualify for the evening finals. Last year was the 39th consecutive year that the program has had a top four finish out of the 15 schools that earn annual invitations based on performances held in the winter.
