The Knoxville Girls Tennis Squad won the Saydel Invitational on Saturday scoring 15 points and winning the event by four over runner-up Southwest Valley. Knoxville’s Janie Maasdam had a dominating day winning the singles championship and not dropping a game winning every match, winning all three of her matches 8-0 Iselynn Prevo battled back to place 5th after losing her first round match, she beat Ava Allen of Centerville 8-2, and beat Izzy Smith of Saydel 8-0 to claim 5th. In doubles the team of Natalie Collins and Marlea Cox took 2nd place. They beat a team from Southwest Valley in the first round 8-0, then won over a duo from Centerville 8-6 before falling in the finals to another team from Southwest Valley 8-2. Kate Schneider and Mackenzie Karr placed 3rd as their first round match was victorious 8-2 before falling in the semifinals before taking 3rd place. Panthers Coach Nick DeMoss tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he has been happy with how all his girls have been playing and working early this season.

DeMoss: “I’m just really impressed with all of the girls all the way down. We have girls from 7-10 that can challenge each other, so I’m really looking forward to how we can make each other a better team.”

Knoxville has a busy week upcoming as the Panthers travel to Grinnell on Tuesday, host Clarke on Thursday and head to Nevada on Friday.
