Central Slashes Women’s Golf Score at Wartburg

Slightly tamer winds produced lower scores as the Central College women’s golf team improved by 23 shots over Saturday’s round in taking seventh at the 11-team Wartburg Spring Invitational on Sunday.

The Dutch, who had to battle 25-mph winds on Saturday, finished at 365-342-707. Peyton Bytnar was 18th at 85-85-170, while Parker Stout shot 90-84-174. Mackenzie Biggs also improved with 97-84-181, Lydia Grond shot 93-89-182 and Rachel Sohn had 100-91-191. Central’s second unit tied for 10th at 412-400-812, with Mickey Martens leading the way with 101-91-192.

The Dutch travel to Normal, Illinois for the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course next Saturday and Sunday. 

Doubles Spur Dutch Women to Road Tennis Win

A clean sweep of the doubles matches started some momentum for the Central College women’s tennis team in a 7-2 win at Simpson College on Sunday.

Central (9-9) won its third consecutive match, a first for this year’s team.

Central’s practice time has had an emphasis towards doubles and it proved effective with three wins Saturday, highlighted by an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles from Jennifer Larson and Madi Whalen. Emma Murphy and Lauren Gano won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney and Becca Vala won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Mahoney won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, Vala won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, Murphy won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Gano won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

The final regular season contest for the Dutch is set for Friday at Augustana College (Ill.) at 4:30 pm.
