Construction on the new gymnasium at Melcher-Dallas High School is nearing completion.

The school was forced to vacate the old gymnasium just over three years ago due to damages to the roof, and Superintendent Scott Bridges says that the project is nearly done. Construction was originally expected to be finished on May 31st, but is now estimated to be done in early May. Bridges says that the construction crew is currently working on the final major portion of the project, but adds that a few more minor things remain before they can begin occupying the space.

“On May 1st, we’ve got our final punch list walkthrough, we’ve already had one, where most everything is completed. Right now we’re giving them the next three-ish weeks to get all those items addressed. They’re doing the last bit of major work right now, that’s the elevator, it’s getting installed as we speak. That’ll wrap up, I’m guessing, in a week and a half or less. And then basically all the work will be done except for, like I talked about, those punch list items where people have to come back and fix little things that weren’t quite right.”
