Prior to the solar eclipse Monday afternoon, the Webb Shadle Public Library hosted a Pre-Solar Eclipse Party with NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador Volunteer Daniel Hoy.

As part of the event, Hoy shared a story that explains the process and gives insights into the eclipse. The event also featured a time to make eclipse-related crafts and free snacks. With several younger children attending the event, Hoy said that he hopes they got a better understanding of our solar system.

“I’d say for the little ones, it’s just the wonders of space and the things around us that we don’t usually pay attention to. I mean, the sun is a little yellow ball that comes up and it goes down and comes up and it goes down, but this is something really special that happens not very often.”

Following the event, each attendee received a pair of eclipse glasses that were donated by the Optometric Associates of Warren County, to be able to view the solar eclipse from home.
