Dutch Women Debut in Outdoor Track and Field National Poll

In the third week of the USTFCCCA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Team Rating Index released Tuesday, the Central College women’s team debuted at No. 19.

Points in the National Team Rating Index are based off placement in the National Descending Order Lists. The higher an athlete sits on the list, the more points he or she adds to his or her team’s total. The Dutch have three entries in the top 10 and 13 in the top 50.

Senior Caroline McMartin has the No. 1 time in the 5,000 meters from her opening weekend mark of 16 minutes, 29.11 seconds at the Washington University Distance Carnival. Megan Johnson is No. 6 in the 10,000 meters with her 35:00.33 at the same meet. Lizzy Van Utrecht, Ava Parkins, Emily McMartin, and Abbi Roerdink are No. 7 in the 4×400-meter relay after winning at the Wartburg Outdoor Select last weekend in 3:53.63.

Central has entries at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California this weekend.

Central Lands Four on Football Hampshire Society List

Four Central College seniors were added to the school’s state-leading number of National Football Foundation Hampshire Society members Wednesday.

The Hampshire Society, in its 18th year, recognizes senior football players who are starters or significant reserves and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Cited for the Dutch are strong safety Cameron Bannister, tight end Nik Coble, wide receiver Jeff Herbers, and linebacker Brody Klein. The Dutch have 142 honorees in the past 16 years, the most in Iowa. Nationwide, 1,988 players from 339 schools were recognized this year.

The seniors selected helped lead Central to an 8-2 record last fall.
