The Iowa Legislature recently passed a bill to reform the Area Education Agencies that serve school districts across the state, and with that came a raise in teacher pay to $47,500 in year one and $50,000 in year two and beyond, with additional raises for teachers with more experience. Indianola Schools Superintendent Ted Ihns tells KNIA News the teacher pay increases won’t affect Indianola very much, as their minimums for new teachers were already above those marks.
“I think our biggest piece is the legislation is going to give more money to school districts that aren’t there, so they are going to reap that benefit more than the Indianola Community School District. How that’s actually going to be set out, they’ve shared a scale of what it’s going to look like but it’s not set in stone So it’s going to be through the TSS (Teacher Salary Supplement) dollars and those that aren’t at that threshold will receive more, and those that are already there will receive less.”
