KNIA/KRLS Radio was invited to participate in special training from the National Weather Service Thursday.

KNIA/KRLS Director of Content Andrew Schneider participated in Integrated Warning Team training, which featured TV meteorologists and emergency management teams from across central Iowa. Marion County Emergency Management and surrounding agencies from Mahaska and Jasper Counties were also among the participants. Emily Feagins says these exercises are critical in ensuring the best information can be shared among key stakeholders during emergencies.

Schneider was able to review the latest technology available and interact with local and state partners about ways to best convey updates during tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flooding.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Chad Hahn with the National Weather Service says several technological advancements have been made that unify the media, first responders, and their office in Johnston to strengthen the information available and how efficiently it is shared during severe weather and other emergency events.

The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for Marion and Warren Counties.
