Norwalk suffered narrow defeats in both girls tennis and boys soccer on Friday.

Indianola 6, Norwalk Girls Tennis 5

The Warrior tennis girls went 3-1 in third-set super tiebreakers against Indianola but lost the dual 6-5. Norwalk singles wins came from No. 1 seed Anya Kallenbach (7-5, 4-6, 10-7), No. 3 Grace Dehmer (6-1, 6-3) and No. 6 Julia Palen (6-1, 3-6, 10-8). Kallenbach and Katie Larson teamed up for a 6-3, 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 team of Dehmer and Tessa Livingston prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. Indianola picked up five of their six wins in straight sets.

Norwalk is now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference duals. The Warriors host Waukee Northwest on Monday afternoon.

Ankeny 2, Norwalk Boys Soccer 1 (PKs)

Playing in the first round of the West Des Moines Valley Tournament, the Norwalk boys soccer team lost to Ankeny 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout. The Warriors converted their first six PK shots but the Hawks did one better, going 7-for-7.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Norwalk tied the score in the second half when Jonah Sandhoff assisted a goal by senior Jace Davis. The score was tied 1-1 after 80 minutes of regulation, forcing the shootout. Grant Fletcher, Drake Stageman, Caden Endres, Sandhoff, Davis and Tyden Eng were all successful on Norwalk’s PK attempts. Goalie Jacoby Robbins finished the night with three saves.

The Warriors are now 3-4 overall and will return to the Valley Tournament today for a 4:00 p.m. match against Millard West.
