A bill making major changes to Area Education Agencies was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds in March.
Twin Cedars and Melcher Dallas Schools Superintendent Scott Bridges says AEAs provide both school districts with a variety of services, but adds that he’s concerned that the legislation will impact their ability to provide those resources. Bridges also said that while he believes there were ways the bill could have improved AEAs, the changes implemented were too drastic in nature and will have negative impacts on schools across the state.
“They have great services that might go away, and we’re gonna have to figure out how to do that and every school district is going to be trying to find those services somewhere. And right now we haven’t had to do that, we just go to the AEA for it and they do a good job and they provide those services. Now where are we going? We don’t know. So, I would go back to my original statement, something needed done, but this was too severe, and such a short time frame to turn around to get things figured out by July 1st. I don’t think we’re going to know for a long time just how much of an impact this had.”
