Knoxville Girls Tennis Edged By Pella Christian
The Knoxville Girls tennis Squad fell to Pella Christian 5-4 on Monday night. The Panthers were trailing 4-2 heading into doubles play needing to win all three matches, but was unable to pull the needed sweep. Winning in singles was Kate Schneider over Leah Mulder at #3 and Bridgette Liston over Lexi Branderhorst at #5. Janie Maasdam and Iselynn Prevo defeated the Eagles team of Branderhorst and Rachel Lanferman at #2, while Schneider and Mackenzie Karr teamed up to defeat the Pella Christian team of Mulder and Ava Breems at #3. Maasdam tells KNIA/KRLS Sports she has been more consistent this season which has helped her get out to a fast start.
Maasdam: “My consistency has been a big thing for me, and developing my own game, and creating that mindset of just get one back until the point’s over.”
Knoxville Girls Golf 2nd At Pella Quad
The Knoxville Girls Golf Squad played in a quad meet at the Pella Golf and Country Club on Monday and finished second to the Lady Dutch 192-219, while PCM and Pleasantville did not have enough to score as a team. Coach Barry Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports the 219 was very respectable and was overall happy with the play. Caelie Smith was runner up with a 46 while Faith Roozeboom was 3rd with a 50. Hannah Burkhart shot a career best 59, Braylee Mason shot a 64 and Brilynn McMillen carded a 66. Knoxville will head to Oskaloosa for an 18 hole meet on Thursday.
Knoxville Soccer Squads Pick Up Non-Conference Victories
The Knoxville Soccer Squads got wins in their respective matches on Monday. The Panther girls beat Central Iowa United 3-1. Ava VanDonselaar scored a goal and Payton Horn added two more. Ella Breazeale came up with 11 saves. Knoxville is now 3-4 on the season. The boys meanwhile took care of PCM 1-0. A goal by Joe Finnegan in the 2nd half was all Knoxville needed and Carson Cecil had three saves. Knoxville boys are also 3-4 on the season and will travel to Chariton on Friday.
