Early Lead Fades as Pella Christian Boys Soccer Falls to Central Iowa United

Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Pella Christian boys soccer team saw win number four on the season slip away in a 3-2 loss to Central Iowa United Monday night.

The Eagles got the scoring started in the first half, when Trae Van Maanen’s pass from mid-field found Ethan Van Arendonk down field, and Van Arendonk beat the goalie to find the back of the net. Pella Christian’s 1-0 advantage held into halftime, before growing to 2-0 early in the second half. In the 44th minute, Theo Hugen sliced his way through the Central Iowa United defense, and his intended cross pass went off the foot of a defender and into the goal to grow the Eagles lead. The momentum flipped in the 57th minute when Central Iowa United scored on a penalty kick, before adding goals in the 60th and 68th minutes to drop Pella Christian to 3-4 overall on the spring.

The Eagles boys soccer squad is scheduled to be back in action today, hosting Dallas Center-Grimes in a boys-girls soccer doubleheader on Eagle Lane beginning at 5:15 pm.
