A campaign kick-off event was held Tuesday night in Knoxville for Iowa House District 21 candidate Spencer Waugh.

The event was held from 5:00-7:00 pm at Nearwood Winery and Vineyards. Waugh greeted those from Knoxville and surrounding areas who came out to the event to learn more about his candidacy and issues important to his campaign. Waugh, a Democrat who currently works at Simpson College, spoke to the crowd at the kick-off about the reasons he is running and his desire to serve the people in District 21. Waugh tells KNIA/KRLS his focus is listening to what is on the voters’ mind.

“That is what is important. We’re so early on, but to have this many people out here wanting to show their support, but also to meet me. I think what’s most important is the conversations we’re having inside. They’re telling me what’s on their hearts and minds. That is what is most important about living in a Representative Democracy, is where the representative listens to the voters.”

The three main platforms Waugh is running on are education, individual liberties, and mental health. Waugh is challenging incumbent Brooke Boden.
