Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is breaking ground on three new houses this summer and is seeking potential homebuyers.

Applications are open until May 17th. Individuals and families with a household income of 50% to 80% of the median are encouraged to apply. Depending on family size, that would be approximately $35,000 and $60,000 per year. Executive Director Amy Meyer says that their goal is to provide affordable housing with low-interest mortgages to low- to moderate-income families.

“One of the misconceptions about Habitat is that people get a house for free, they definitely do not, they purchase a house with a mortgage just like anyone else. The only difference is, it’s super low to no interest, so it’s very affordable for the homeowner but someone does still need to be able to afford that mortgage.”

Applications for both the new homes as well as critical home repair can be found online at www.hfhmci.org, picked up at the Habitat for Humanity office at 2004 Hempstead Drive in Pella, or emailed or mailed, if needed. For questions, contact the Habitat for Humanity office at 641-828-8844.
