Eagles Boys Golf Extends Lead in Little Hawkeye Conference Regular Season Race

Competing in the second of three Little Hawkeye Conference regular season meets, the Pella Christian boys golf team extended their lead with a 1st place finish on Thursday. 

The Eagles posted a team score of 324 at Bos Landen Golf Course, which bested second place Pella by three strokes, and grew their overall conference lead over the Dutch to 20 strokes. Pella Christian was led by juniors Cooper Spronk and Eliot Menninga on the day, as they each shot a 79 to finish in a 3 way tie for 2nd place. Junior Deacon Branderhorst tied for 7th place with an 82, while Isaiah Breems finished in a tie for 11th with an 84.  Landon Fransman and Carter Brand rounded out the varsity squad for the day, shooting an 86 and 94, respectively. 

The Eagles are back in action at Gateway Recreation Golf Course in the PCM Invite on Monday. 

Pella Christian Girls Track and Field 4th, Boys 6th at Newton

The Pella Christian girls track and field team claimed fourth place at the Newton Coed meet Thursday night, while the boys squad took sixth place.

The Eagle girls won three events on the night and finished top three in an additional three events. Meredith Van Wyk won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.54, while Bailey Vos won the 400 meter dash in 58.87. The other event win for the PC girls came from Amaia Agre, Van Wyk, Rachel Kacmarynski, and Vos in the sprint medley relay with a time of 1:52.17. The 4×200 meter relay team of Claire Westerkamp, Kacmarynski, Vos, and Van Wyk took second place in a time of 1:48.31. Adding third place finishes Thursday were the 4×100 meter relay team of Westerkamp, Amelia Boender, Lexi Terpstra, and Agre (52.61) and the 4×400 meter relay team of Kacmarynski, Agre, Maisy Meinders, and Ashlyn Ver Meer (4:12.46).

The Pella Christian boys won two events on the night, while finishing top three in two other events. Trevor Veenstra won both events for the Eagle boys, claiming the top spot in the discus with a throw of 184’ 9.5” and in the shot put with a throw of 60’ 11”. The sprint medley relay team of Noah Nunnikhoven, Tysen De Vries, Johnson Morgan, Brecken Ritzert took second place with a time of 1:39.73. Also claiming a top three finish was the distance medley relay team of Logan Nunnikhoven, Caleb Volk, Elias Keegan, and Ely Cadwell, who took third in a time of 3:54.25.

Eagles Girls Soccer Extends Shutout Streak in Win Against Chariton

Picking up a 1-0 victory Thursday night, the Eagles girls soccer team picked up their seventh consecutive shutout victory against Chariton. 

Despite finding the back of the net just once, Pella Christian put pressure on the Charger defense throughout the night. The Eagles recorded 22 shots in the contest, while limiting Chariton to just four shots. The game remained scoreless as the teams entered the halftime, but the Eagles broke through in the 49th minute. Karis Fikkert snuck the ball past multiple Charger defenders and the goalkeeper off a corner kick from Hattie Fancher, to record the only goal of the night.

Pella Christian improved to 5-3 overall with the win, and will look to move three games over .500 on Tuesday when they host Indianola for Senior Night.

Pella Christian Boys Tennis Team Falls to Indianola, Girls Tennis Match Canceled

The Pella Christian boys tennis team fell 7-4 on the road at Indianola Thursday night, while the Eagle girls home match against the Indians was canceled due to rain.

Kirby Van Wyngarden provided the Pella Christian boys with their lone singles win against the Indians, winning his #5 match 7-5, 6-4. The Eagles had more success in doubles play, winning three of the five contests against Indianola. Shaun Bos and Aaron Meinders opened doubles action with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the #1 spot. Claiming the other doubles wins for Pella Christian were Rob Schreur and Rhett Terpstra at #2 (6-4, 7-6, 1-0) and Zeb Kanis and Van Wyngarden at #4 (6-0, 6-1). 

The loss for the Eagle boys dropped their overall record to 2-5 and their Little Hawkeye Conference mark to 1-4. Both Pella Christian tennis teams are slated to face Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday, with the girls hosting the Mustangs and the boys competing on the road.
