Girls Distance Runners Break 4×800 Record in Hopes for Drake Relays Bid in Newton
Coming off of back-to-back cross country titles, it should come as no surprise that the Pella distance crew with the girls track and field team has been torching the school record book on the oval. Another mark was achieved Thursday by the 4×800 relay as the Dutch made one last push for another Drake Relays qualifier at the Newton Invitational. The quartet of Macy Schroeder, Lizzie Neumann, Raegan Snieder, and Marissa Ferebee topped their season best from the Jim Duncan Invitational with a time of 9:39.06, which puts them at 15th in the state as of early Friday morning. Ferebee found a win in the 1500 meters and Ruth Dunham won the 3000 to get the Dutch to a runner up finish in the team standings. Find full results here.
Underclassmen Carry Dutch Golfers to Strong Day at Bos Landen, 2nd Overall After Two of Three-Day Conference Tournament
It was a day at Bos Landen that belonged to the underclassmen of the Pella boys golf team as they continued to hold 2nd place in the four-team, three-day Little Hawkeye Conference tournament. Patrick Bishara was the day-two medalist at 78, and Sophomores Cole Floden and Kyler Besick carded 81 and 82 respectively to push the Dutch to a team score of 320 in soggy conditions. The Dutch are 20 strokes behind Pella Christian after 36 holes. It’s a quick turnaround for Pella, as they head to West Delaware today.
Girls Golfers 2nd in Large Field at Oskaloosa Invitational
The Pella Girls Golf Team placed 2nd out of 11 teams on Thursday at the Oskaloosa Invitational with a team score of 383. The Dutch were led by Karsyn Lyons, who carded an 85, placing 3rd individually. Leading scorers for the Dutch were Emerson Lee (96), Sophia Reynolds (97), and Moriah Reynolds (105). After the first seven meets of the season, #7 in 3A Pella’s record is 29-11.
UPDATE: Boys Track and Field Wins in Class B in Talented Waukee Relays Field
It was a strong field mixed among the classes at the Waukee Boys Relays Thursday, as the Dutch won Class B at the event. Hanson King continued his dominance in the throwing rings, with his shot put (56-09.5) and discus (163-01) winning medals in both events. Find full UPDATED results here.
Boys Soccer Falls in PK Shootout in Ottumwa
Pella continued a series of hard-luck boys soccer losses, falling to Ottumwa 2-1 in PKs on Thursday. The Bulldogs started the night strong, and scored on a fast counterattack in the 6th minute to go up 1-0. It was 71st minute for Pella’s best scoring chance, and it came from a pass from Carson Leathers to Teddy Apostolopoulos.
The game went to PKs — Pella’s 3rd game to do so this season so far, and the Dutch were beaten 4-3 as Ottumwa’s keeper stopped two kicks.
