The Simpson College baseball team shutout Central College 7-0 Friday night in the first game of a three game set due in part to a dominating pitching performance from Storm ace Trey Castille, a game heard live on the KNIA3 stream.

Castille pitched an 8 ⅔ inning gem only giving up one hit, as he racked up 15 total strikeouts. Simpson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning after the Storm bats got going early. After starting Dutch pitcher Declan O’Hare was taken out of the game after just one inning of work, Andrew Doyle came in for an impressive six inning long relief appearance to keep the Storm offense mostly in check. Offensively Simpson had five players that had multi-hit games including designated hitter Nate Cagley who went 3-4 in the contest.

Simpson Head Coach Nathan Roling praised the pitching performance of Trey Castille and said he makes quick work of opposing teams lineups.

“He can be a strikeout pitcher, but he doesn’t waste too many pitches. Sometimes with a strikeout pitcher the defense can get a little lazy and complacent back there. Defensively with Trey out there, he fires from strike one and they’re on it. They’re on their toes and they have confidence that it’s going to be hit pretty weakly to them.”

After the win, Simpson improves to 14-17 overall and 7-9 in American River Conference play while the Dutch drop to 11-18 overall and 5-9 in the league. Games two and three of the series will be held today at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm in Indianola, and all of the action can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
