All eight teams were once again in action for the Dutch on Tuesday.

Warner Breaks All-Time Goals Mark as Pella Girls Soccer Dominates Newton
While it took awhile to break a packed in defense, the scoring floodgates opened for the #3 ranked Pella girls soccer team in a 7-0 shutout of Newton Tuesday. Abby Warner had a hat trick in the effort, which according to Head Coach Mark Howard, breaks the school career record of goals of 118 set by Grace Held. Pella also had two goals from Bri Shannon and tallies from Avery Hunsinger and Claire Smock. Pella improves to 6-2 and next heads to #5 in 1A Nevada on Thursday.

Pella Boys Soccer Flips Script, Wins PK Shootout Over Ranked Newton
Pella’s boys soccer team finally found victory in a penalty kick showdown as they knocked off #6 in 3A Newton Tuesday 3-2. Head Coach Mark Solomon says Newton’s most dangerous weapons were extremely long throw-ins inside the box, and the Cardinals found both their goals during the game with the long ball into the box. The Dutch scored first only 11 minutes into the game with Austin Bone, but gave up a goal minutes later to the Cardinals. Then in the 2nd half Newton scored, but Pella responded only minutes later with Teddy Apostolopoulos. For the 4th time so far this season, the Dutch were going to a PK shootout to determine a winner. Goalkeeper Tristan Huckstep had two blocks during the shootout, and Pella won in kicks 3-2. The Dutch next host their home invitational Saturday with Fort Madison and ADM.

Pella Girls Track and Field Dominate Grinnell Tiger Relays
The Dutch girls track and field team brought home the trophy at the Grinnell Tiger Relays. Marissa Ferebee set the school record in the 800 meters (2:19.10) while winning the race. Other season best races included: Kamryn Long in both the 100m and 200m, Macy Schroeder and Chloe Punt in the 400m, Ruth Dunham in the 1500m, Joeley Helle in the Discus and the 4×100 team of Abby Melvin, Emmi Riddick, Kamry Trine, and Mara Schiebout and the 4×200 team of Abby Melvin, Kyla Barnes, Kamry Trine and Mara Schiebout. Pella Boys Track and Field Wins Quad at Tiger Relays
Pella’s boys were able to join the girls in winning the team trophy at the Grinnell Tiger Relays Tuesday. The Dutch did so with Drake Relays qualifiers Hanson King and Canaan Dunham out of action. Pella had first place finishes from:

110 Hurdles – Cor Huyser (16.78)
800 Meters – Nathan Vander Waal (2:01.45)
3200 Meters – Nathan Vander Waal (9:57.5)
Distance Medley – 3:53.32
Shuttle Hurdle – 1:02.31
Discus – Garrett O’Halloran (137-03.5)

The Dutch track and field teams are next in action Thursday at their home invitational, hosted at Pella Christian, while a select number are back at the Drake Relays.


Pella Boys Golfers 5th at Deep Oskaloosa Invitational


The Pella boys golf team navigated a deep field of 15 teams and placed 5th at the Oskaloosa Invitational Tuesday. Cade McGinley carded a 75 to place in a tie for 3rd to lead the Dutch at Edmundson Golf Course. Luke Naig (82), Patrick Bishara (86), and AJ Hoekstra (86) rounded out the 328 scorecard for the Dutch. Pella next travels to The Preserve at Honey Creek Thursday.

Pella Girls Golf Remains in 3rd After Two Days of Conference Meet
The Pella Girls Golf Team placed 3rd in the 2nd regular season Little Hawkeye Conference meet on Tuesday at Pella Golf and Country Club The team shot a team score of 379. Leading scorers for the Dutch were led by Runner-Up Medalist Sophia Reynolds (86), Karsyn Lyons – 4th (90), Emerson Lee (100), and Carlyn Henry (103). The team’s two-day score is 748, keeping them in third behind Indianola and Norwalk. Pella is next in action Thursday at Fairfield.

Dutch Tennis Teams Sweep Newton
Both Pella tennis teams took care of business against Newton, sweeping the Cardinals 11-0. The Dutch girls had their standard six starters (Blom, Else, Smock, Westerkamp, VanDusseldorp, and Higginbotham) win in straight sets. The most drama for the Dutch girls came at four doubles, as Kytilin Plate and Addison Van Wyk won a set one tie breaker and pulled away in the second set. Find full results from the girls here.
