The Des Moines Metro Opera 2024 Festival Season takes place this summer, including a world premiere performance of American Apollo. American Apollo is a story surrounding a pivotal figure in American art: Thomas Eugene McKeller, a Black hotel worker who served as model and muse for famous portraitist John Singer Sargent.

The season runs from June 28th through July 21st, and will feature four mainstage productions of The Barber of Seville, Salome, Pelléas & Mélisande, and American Apollo.
The Des Moines Metro Opera saw record ticket sales in 2022, which were topped in 2023, and sales in 2024 are already ahead of the previous records.

All four productions will be performed in the Pote Theatre at the Blank Performing Arts Center on the Simpson College campus.
