The Norwalk girls track and field team placed third at Thursday’s Carlisle Invite while the Warrior tennis teams and boys soccer squad all suffered defeat.
Girls Track 3rd at Carlisle
The Norwalk track and field girls won four events, scored 92.5 points and placed third out of 13 teams at Carlisle, finishing behind Urbandale (124) and Carlisle (103). Three Warriors earned individual gold medals on the night as Ella Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.65, Ashlyn Brown won the 400 in 1:02.15 and Bailey Birmingham took the 400 hurdles in 1:10.75. Norwalk also placed first in the sprint medley relay with the team of Savannah Welch, Dani Peters, Hailey Gear and Brown.
The Warriors placed second in the 4×800 and third in the shuttle hurdle relay. Jillian Hammond was third in the 100 hurdles. Norwalk will compete in the 4×100 relay at the Drake Relays on Saturday, then travel to Pella Christian for Tuesday’s Little Hawkeye Conference Meet.
Boys Soccer: Ames 3, Norwalk 0
The Norwalk boys soccer team was shut out by Ames 3-0 on Thursday night, falling to 6-7 on the season. The visiting Little Cyclones led 1-0 at halftime and added two goals in the final 40 minutes. The Warriors attempted seven shots on goal, including two each by Keilor Rodman and Noah Buhrow. Norwalk will host Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday night in a battle for first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
Girls Tennis: Pella 10, Norwalk 1
The Norwalk girls tennis team lost 10-1 at Pella, finishing conference play at 5-5 overall and 4-2 in Little Hawkeye duals. Senior Katie Larson picked up the Warriors’ lone win at No. 2 singles, defeating Alloree Else in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-3, 1-6, 10-8. Norwalk returns to Pella for the conference tournament on Wednesday.
Boys Tennis: Pella 9, Norwalk 2
The Norwalk boys tennis team was defeated 9-2 by Pella, snapping the Warriors’ six-dual winning streak. They finished 5-1 in Little Hawkeye duals and are now 6-2 overall going into Tuesday’s home dual against Ballard. Norwalk wins vs. Pella included Corbin Oswald at No. 5 singles (7-5, 7-6) and the No. 4 doubles team of Eli Mills and Lane Juergens (6-1, 5-7, 10-8). Norwalk’s Adrian Bush and Braylon Stockwell both lost their singles matches in third-set super tiebreakers.
