The Knoxville City Council approved next steps for a potential new Kading housing development at their special meeting Monday night.

The council approved annexation or real estate into the City of Knoxville that would be used for this potential development. This is for land located west of Roche Street and North of W Bell Avenue. The council also approved a tax incentive application to be submitted to the Iowa Economic Development Authority. This application is for state tax credits, which the project is contingent on. According to Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch, the project may not be able to move forward without securing these credits.

The current Kading development in Knoxville consists of 155 homes. A new development would be a continuation of an effort by the city to address the current rental housing shortage in Knoxville.
