The Tulip City soccer showdown renewed at Pella High School Tuesday in a doubleheader, and it was advantage Dutch in the girls matchup with a 5-1 victory, while the Eagles led 1-0 at the half before storms halted festivities.

In the opener, Pella was able to build a 3-1 lead at the break, with a pair of marks from Abby Warner and Maelee Solomon scoring her first career varsity goal. Esther Ford of Pella Christian scored on the Eagles’ lone shot on goal in the first 40 minutes.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Bri Shannon added to the scoring before Warner capped off her hat trick. The Dutch celebrated senior night as well.

Pella improves to 8-3 overall and the Eagles fall to 6-6; both take a break for Tulip Time before resuming action next week.

The boys contest was suspended due to lightning and subsequent storms; Nathan Brouwer scored on a penalty kick in the 6th minute and the Eagles held a 1-0 lead. Pella Head Coach Mark Solomon says they are seeking a date to make up the remaining 40 minutes.
