The Marion County Conservation Department released their May Nature Notes on Tuesday. According to Marion County Naturalist Marla Mertz, Baltimore Orioles have started arriving in the area, along with hummingbirds and numerous warblers, grosbeaks, and buntings. Mertz also stated that many other species of birds will be making their way into the county this month including warblers, tanagers, flycatchers, buntings, cuckoos, gnatcatchers, chimney swifts, and more. Also noted in the May Nature Notes, World Migratory Bird Day will be Saturday, May 11th and National Endangered Species Day will be Friday, May 19th.
