May is National Foster Care Awareness Month, which recognizes the important role that people from all parts of child welfare play in supporting children, youth, and families.

Recruiting and Retention Coordinator at Four Oaks Family Connections Lindsey Phillips says that May also highlights the needs for foster families. Phillips adds that with extra awareness brought to foster care this month, Four Oaks uses it as a way to share the needs for families across the state.

“I just think it’s a good opportunity to get out in the communities and share what the need looks like here in the state of Iowa, why we need the homes, what the homes look like, and what it means to be a foster or adoptive family in the State of Iowa.”
