Competing at their respective Little Hawkeye Conference Tournaments Wednesday, the Pella Christian boys tennis team finished in fifth place with 26 total points, while the girls team took seventh place with 14 points.

At the boys conference meet in Norwalk, the Eagles got a pair of top-three finishes in both doubles flights. In flight one doubles, Shaun Bos and Aaron Meinders were 6-1, 6-2 winners over Mason Muir and Holden Braundmeir from Oskaloosa in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the duo defeated Norwalk’s Adrian Bush and Braylon Stockwell 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the championship match, but finished runner-up after falling to Pella’s Cameron Rowe and Joshua Roozeboom. In flight two doubles, Rob Schreur and Rhett Terpstra defeated Oskaloosa’s Cooper Rupprecht and Aiden Scholes 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinal, but fell in the semifinals 6-4, 6-2 to Dallas Center-Grimes’ Ky Wilkens and Zach Arends. In the third place match, Schreur and Terpstra defeated Wyatt Black and Wyatt Coburn of Norwalk 6-3, 6-2, to pick up Pella Christian’s other top-three finish. Evan Tschetter and Kirby Van Wyngarden each finished in sixth place in flight one and flight two singles.

For the Eagle girls at the conference meet at Pella’s Caldwell Park, Ava Breems and Leah Mulder provided the lone top-three finish. The duo earned a 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 victory over Izzy Wilson and Paige Benson from Newton in the quarterfinals, before dropping the semifinal match 6-0, 6-2 against Claire Smock and Bryn Higginbotham of Pella. Breems and Mulder bounced back following the loss, downing Jenna DeBoef and Aysica Morrow of Oskaloosa 6-3, 6-1 to take third place in flight two doubles. Lexi Brandhorst added a sixth place finish in flight two singles, while Rachel Lanferman in flight one singles and Reagan De Vries and Addie Van Arendonk in flight one doubles each finished in seventh place.

Both Pella Christian tennis teams begin postseason action next week at Pella’s Caldwell Park. The Eagle girls compete at the regional state singles and doubles qualifier on Monday and the boys will play in the district individual bracket on Wednesday.
