All sports events that were scheduled for Knoxville High School on Thursday were called off due to rain early in the day including the South Central Conference Track and Field Meet in Centerville, which is now postponed to Monday. The Panthers both have a chance to finish in the top half of the conference race. Rain also got the girls tennis meet against Oskaloosa. There are no scheduled high school events for Friday but Saturday presents a busy day for three Panther sports teams as boys golf will head to the Ames Golf and Country Club to play in the Gilbert Invitational. Boys Tennis will play in the Ottumwa Invitational. Coach Kevin Wadle tells KNIA/KRLS Sports one of the things he is seeing that shows the progress his team is making is they are competing more against some of the better teams evident when the Panthers finished 3rd this week at the conference meet.
Wadle: “I can tell by body language when I talk to them at the break, and I have to start by saying ‘I’m not here to chew you out, I’m here to help you find out what’s wrong.’ If they can put even a couple of things I tell them in the front of their minds, it usually turns out very positive.”
The third team in action on Saturday is girls soccer as the Panthers will travel to West Central Valley for a 1:00pm start. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest in Knoxville High School sports.
