The Pella Christian girls soccer team picked a 5-1 road victory at Central Iowa United Monday night, while the boys soccer squad downed Chariton 4-2 on Eagle Lane.

The Eagles girls found themselves trailing 1-0 in the eighth minute against the Trojans, but responded with five unanswered goals. In the ninth minute, Lexi Terpstra scored off a Tori Van Zee assist to re-tie the game, and a Central Iowa United own goal on an assist by Carly Huyser put Pella Christian ahead 2-1 in the 16th minute. The Eagles pulled away in the final 20 minutes of action to improve to 7-6 overall. Van Zee netted a goal of her own on a Terpstra assist in the 69th minute. Esther Ford added a goal in the 77th minute on another Van Zee assist, and also had the final goal with a header as time expired on a corner kick from Jaclyn Holmes.

Caue Bastos gave the Eagle boys the early lead over Chariton, after a pair of Chargers failed to clear a throw-in from Elias Keegan in the 15th minute. After Chariton re-tied the game in the 35th minute, Nathan Brouwer pushed Pella Christian back in front a minute later, when his free kick bounced past everyone and found the back of the net. In the 55th minute, the Eagles extended their lead to 3-1, when Camden Parker’s corner kick was deflected into the goal by a Charger defender. Chariton pulled back within one in the 57th minute, but Pella Christian put the game away for good in the 71st minute. After the goalie’s kick off of a save hit him in the back, Ethan Van Arendonk lifted a shot over everyone into the goal to solidify the win and improve the Eagles to 6-6 overall on the season.

The Eagles soccer teams are back in action today for a girls-boys doubleheader at Oskaloosa, beginning with the girls game at 5:30 pm.
