Knoxville West Elementary teacher Alyssa Swayne has been named as the Leighton State Bank teacher of the year for 2024.

The annual award had over 50 nominations and Mrs. Swayne was presented her award along with flowers on Tuesday morning. Three nominations were read aloud to Mrs. Swayne of why different individuals nominated her for this award. The nominations stated that Mrs. Swayne has changed students’ lives and she has had a remarkable impact on students in her classroom. It was also stated that Swayne goes above and beyond for her students, and she wants to make a lasting impact on kids within the Knoxville Community School District. Swayne says she was speechless and honored to receive the award. She says that she does what she does for the kids.

“I just love seeing them grow throughout the year. Socially, behaviorally, academically, just seeing where they started at the beginning of the year and the growth they make toward the end of the year.”

Swayne also received a donation from Leighton State Bank to be used for classroom supplies.
