The Norwalk doubles team of Adrian Bush and Braylon Stockwell qualified for the Boys State Tennis Tournament on Wednesday, placing second in the Class 2A Singles and Doubles District Tournament held in Norwalk.

Bush, a senior, and Stockwell, a junior, entered the meet as the number two doubles seed. They reached the championship round with wins of 6-2, 6-1 and 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 vs. a team from Des Moines Roosevelt. Having already clinched a state berth, Bush and Stockwell nearly defeated the top-seeded team from Roosevelt in the finals. They took the first set 6-3, then lost 3-6, 6-7 with a tight 5-7 decision in the third-set tiebreaker.

Also in doubles play, the Warrior team of Wyatt Black and Wyatt Coburn won their first match 6-1, 6-1 before losing to the top-seeded Roosevelt duo, 0-6, 1-6.

In singles play, Norwalk junior Drew Lents picked up an easy first round win, 6-0, 6-1, then lost a tough 4-6, 4-6 decision against an opponent from Ankeny. Junior Tyler Stiegelmeier lost his first-round match by a score of 5-7, 2-6.

Bush and Stockwell will travel to Iowa City for the 2A State Singles and Doubles Tournament on May 21-22. Norwalk will compete as a team in 2A Substate Duals starting this Saturday at Mason City. Seeded fourth, the Warriors will face Fort Dodge at 9:00 a.m., with the winner taking on top-seeded Mason City.

Norwalk hosts 4A District Track Meet Today

The Norwalk Warrior track and field teams will host a Class 4A State Qualifying Meet today starting at 4:00 p.m. Additional schools in the field include Ames, Des Moines Lincoln, Dowling Catholic, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Ottumwa and Waukee. First and second-place finishers in each event will earn automatic state qualifier bids, with 12 at-large spots per event also advancing to the state meet.
