A brief weather delay failed to dampen the spirits of the Pella Christian boys and girls track and field teams, as the Eagles had nine events earn automatic bids for State at the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Roland-Story Thursday night.

The Pella Christian girls finished as the runner-up in the meet with 102.5 points and got seven events qualified to run at Drake Stadium including:

Meredith Van Wyk – 1st – 200m Dash – 25.56
Bailey Vos – 1st – 400m Dash – 58.62
Lexi Terpstra, Rachel Kacmarynski, Amaia Agre, Meredith Van Wyk – 1st – 4x200m Relay – 1:44.37
Rachel Kacmarynski, Meredith Van Wyk, Maisy Meinders, Bailey Vos – 1st – 4x400m Relay – 4:02.88
Amaia Agre, Rachel Kacmarynski, Meredith Van Wyk, Bailey Vos – 1st – Sprint Medley Relay – 1:48.36
Amelia Boender, Claire Westerkamp, Lexi Terpstra, Amaia Agre – 2nd – 4x100m Relay – 51.31

The Pella Christian boys took sixth at the meet Thursday night, posting a team score of 63 points. Senior Trevor Veenstra was the lone Eagles boys athlete to automatically qualify for State, earning his spot in Des Moines for both throwing events for the third straight season. Despite less than ideal conditions, Veenstra’s throw of 159’ 1” in the Discus won the event by over 18’ and his Shot Put toss of 53’ 4.5” took first place by eight feet.
