The City of Indianola is currently in the process of applying for membership in the Main Street Iowa Program, in partnership with the Indianola Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants among others. City of Indianola Deputy City Manager/Chief of Development and Operations Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News representatives from the City of Newton, who is a member of the program, detailed to community members how being a member revitalized their downtown area. Dissell says Indianola would use it to enhance their already thriving downtown area.

“Indianola fortunately has a very active downtown. We don’t have many vacant storefronts, and we’ve got a lot of active businesses. So why Newton really needed this maybe to help them move the needle forward and get those businesses in here, Indianola looks at it more as just another resource to take our downtown to the next step.”
