The Indianola Police Department presented their annual report to the Indianola City Council earlier this month. Chief Brian Sher tells KNIA news the challenges and triumphs in their employment process was a hurdle last year.
“We lost five officers last year due to various reasons and when you equate that out to our numbers that’s 22% of the department was gone at one time. So, we had a challenge with finding qualifying officers, hiring qualified officers, getting them through the academy, and getting them field trained. And I’m happy to say that as we sit here today in May of 2024, they’re all hired except for one still has a couple of field training left and then they’ll all be good to go.”
Chief Sher will be featured on an upcoming program of Let’s Talk Indianola discussing the annual report.
