It was a day of surviving and advancing for Knoxville sports squads. The boys golf squad qualified for the State Tournament for the fourth straight season as the Panthers finished runner-up at the class 3A District with a round of 306 in less than ideal weather conditions, which was ten shots back of ADM. Evan Smith led the Panthers with a 71 which tied for 3rd place overall. Brady Roozeboom fired a 74, a round that Coach Barry Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports was crucial to the Panthers advancing. Carson Uitermarkt shot a 78 while Noah Keefer came in with an 83, Urban Ziller had an 84 and Luke Roozeboom shot an 86. Knoxville moves on to the class 3A State Tournament at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames next Monday and Tuesday.
Big 2nd Half Carries Knoxville Boys Soccer Past Oskaloosa
The Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad scored three times in the 2nd half to blow open a close match and advance to the class 2A substate semifinals on Monday with a 4-0 win over Oskaloosa. It took the Panthers a little bit to get going, but Brett Watters scored with just over 3:00 remaining in the 1st half to give Knoxville a 1-0 lead. The Panthers scored two goals in a matter of 4:00 in the 2nd half as Max Magana scored his first tally of the season with 32:11 left and then Kaison Wilder put one in with 28:28 left to give Knoxville a comfortable 3-0 lead. Magana scored another goal with just over 5:00 left to cap off the scoring. Coach Dylan Mick told KNIA/KRLS Sports his six forwards put pressure on Oskaloosa’s defense all night.
Mick: “Those six, they pressured them and we lived in their end. I think about 20:00 left in the game it was 3-0. We kind of broke their will and that’s what we want them to do. That was a fun game. When you have good offensive soccer it makes for a fun game to watch.”
Carson Cecil had three saves. Knoxville will head to Nevada to play the two seed Cubs next Monday in the class 2A substate semifinals.
