Today is more Knoxville Sports Squads starting their postseason journey. The Girls Golf Squad will head to Edmundson in Oskaloosa for the class 3A regional. The Panthers have made significant improvements this season led by senior Faith Roozeboom. While Roozeboom will be looking to close out her high school career by qualifying for the State Meet, the rest of the squad is looking to finish as high as they can with a goal of possibly sneaking in. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports going to a familiar course could be an advantage to his team.

Smith: “I made sure when we played the Oskaloosa Invitational I told the girls to try to remember how that hole played and how to shoot on that hole, and what clubs to use. If they can remember that, it’ll go a long way to salvage one or two shots on a hole it goes a long way to how we do on that hole.”

The Panthers have played at Edmundson twice this season. They finished 9th in a loaded field shooting a 440, but shaved 40 strokes off of their score at the South Central Conference meet finishing 3rd with Roozeboom finishing as medallist and Caelie Smith, who has shown marked progress this season, was runner-up.

The Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad will also embark on the regional round of the competition with a familiar foe. Knoxville will host Albia in quarterfinal action tonight at Randy Wilson Track. The Panthers and Lady Dees played on April 19th with Knoxville taking a 2-0 win. In that match, Knoxville got off five more shots on goal while goalie Ella Breazeale had eight saves. The Panthers have been on a hot streak since a 1-4 start, winning seven straight matches while posting an 8-4 mark, with the only thing stopping the Panthers lately has been postponements due to weather. Tonight’s action is set to begin at 7:00. The winner gets the survivor of the Panorama and Ballard match.
