In what was described as a tense, at times contentious, and stressful match, the Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad posted its 8th consecutive win getting three penalty kicks to Albia’s one and advanced to the class 1A regional semifinals on Wednesday night. Both teams had their chances in regulation and the two overtimes, and Knoxville seemingly kept the possession on its side for most of the 2nd half and extra sessions. Charlye Willis converted on Knoxville’s first chance, and after two misses Payton Kearney and Payton Horn, which was the clincher also got goals. Goalie Ella Breazeale had 13 saves. Coach Bethany
Johnson told KNIA/KRLS Sports, Breazeale was key to the win.
Johnson: “She made some really good stops, and I asked her if she was Ok, and she said ‘I’m fine, just having fun and playing some soccer.’ So she was huge tonight.”
Knoxville is now 9-4 and will travel to Panorama on Tuesday.
The Knoxville Girls Golf Squad placed ninth at the Class 3A regional on Wednesday shooting a team total of 416. Faith Roozeboom led the way with a 90, which was just one shot out of qualifying for the State Meet. Other scores were Caelie Smith shooting a 103, Iselyn Prevo had a 106, Braylee Mason shot a 117, Hannah Burkhart with a 127, Brilynn McMillen had a 150.
