The Norwalk girls golf team narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet on Wednesday while the Warrior baseball team dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Girls Golf 3rd at Regional

Competing in the Class 4A Girls Regional Golf Tournament at Marshalltown, Norwalk placed third out of 10 teams with a score of 360 at the American Legion Golf Course. Western Dubuque won the meet with a 333 and the host Bobcats also qualified for state with a 353.

The Warriors were also close to having an individual state qualifier as freshman Evelyn Kinney shot a round of 85 for seventh place. Kinney was one spot and two strokes away from advancing to state. Mariola Torro Abad placed 11th for Norwalk with an 88, Addie Smith shot a 93 for 15th place and Lydia Krueger added a 94.

Some of this year’s Warrior highlights include a second-place finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference and breaking the 18-hole team scoring record twice. Coach Steve Wermerskirchen says that the girls are extremely proud of how much they accomplished and they are already looking forward to next season with the entire varsity roster set to return.

Baseball loses 13-2

The Norwalk baseball team trailed Boone 4-2 after four and a half innings on Wednesday night, but the Toreadors plated nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat the Warriors by the mercy rule, 13-2. Boone also posted a crooked number early, scoring four times in the first inning.

Dylan England went 3-for-4 with a home run for Boone, which improved to 2-0. Norwalk was held to two hits and will seek its first win tonight at Bondurant-Farrar.
