
The Pella Police Department welcomed the community to honor fallen officers during National Peace Officers Memorial Day with a new ceremony on Wednesday. Members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Knoxville Police Department joined to remember those who died while on duty in Marion County. The event included a proclamation by Mayor Don DeWaard. The keynote speaker was Sheryl Hanthorn, whose first husband was the late John E. Van Haaften, a Pella Police officer who died on April 9th, 1980.
