Two people were injured when a semi and a field sprayer collided on Highway 163 east of Pella Friday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reports a semi operated by 49-year-old Robert K. Weed of Philadelphia was traveling in the eastbound lanes near Mile Marker 45 at 2:30 p.m., when he collided with a farm implement operated by 65-year-old Lee Deprenger of Otley. Both vehicles suffered severe damage. Weed was flown by MercyOne Helicopter with life-threatening injuries to Des Moines; Deprenger was transported to Pella Regional by a family vehicle with possible minor injuries. Responding agencies include the Pella Police Department, Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The Iowa DOT handled the more than five hour road closure that followed for clean up.
