Pella’s second home baseball game in their three-game opening week pushed 11 p.m. as the Dutch were able to hold off seven late runs scored by Centerville Thursday, with the home team winning 10-8.
The Dutch opened up a 6-1 lead after two innings, but had to fend off bases-loaded situations in the 5th and 6th from the Big Reds. A four-run bottom of the 5th was enough for the green and white to tiptoe out of danger.
Isaiah Kettler continued his red hot start to 2024, going 4-for-4 and being only a home run away from the cycle. He’s now 8-for-11 (.727) in the opening week. Nathan Carey backed him up with a 2-for-4 night and 3 runs batted in. Nathan Vandelune went five innings to earn the win and freshman Hayes Lautenbach pitched the 7th with 3 strikeouts to earn the save in his varsity debut.
Pella moves to 2-1 overall and returns to the diamond on Monday at PCM.
