Three KNIA/KRLS area state champions from the Tulip City were crowned at Day One of the 2024 State Track and Field meet.

Pella’s Marissa Ferebee followed up on her state cross country championship this past fall by winning the 3000 meter race on the track Thursday. The sophomore will look to do the same in the 1500 meters on Saturday, where she currently has the state’s best time in Class 3A.

Eagles Senior Thrower Trevor Veenstra followed up on his 2023 state title in the discus with a shot put championship in 2024. The future Liberty University athlete will attempt to sweep the throws today by repeating the discus title, where he’s the current state leader.

For the first time since 1980, Pella Christian’s girls had an individual state champion in the form of Bailey Vos. The sophomore won the 400 meter dash. She will look to add to that in relays the rest of the weekend in the 4×400 and sprint medley.

Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS today and Saturday for updates from the 2024 State Track and Field meet in Des Moines.
