Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty, was earlier this week on May 15th.. The Indianola Police Department has lost one officer in the line of duty, William E. “Pop” Hickman in 1957, who passed away from injuries sustained while investigating a vehicle accident. Indianola Police Department representatives Brian Hawkins and Justin Keller traveled to Washington DC to honor the memory of Hickman in 2019, meeting his family for the National Police Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil, where Hickman was memorialized on the National Peace Officer Memorial Wall.
