A dangerous severe weather system may be brewing heading into Tuesday afternoon and evening in south central Iowa.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for severe weather across most of southern Iowa. The biggest threats will be straight line winds exceeding 75 MPH, multiple tornadoes, and large hail. The area has also been placed under a flood watch for most of the day Tuesday.
Additional rounds of rainfall, especially from thunderstorms, could cause flash flooding. Many communities locally have received two-to-four inches of rain since Sunday afternoon. Also, there is a slight risk for severe weather late tonight into early Tuesday morning. Scattered severe storms are possible during that early morning round.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for Marion and Warren Counties.
