After taking seventh place at State a year ago, the Pella Christian boys golf team is hoping to improve upon that finish at the 2024 Class 2A State Golf Tournament in Ames. The Eagles enter the two-day meet ranked 4th in Class 2A with a scoring average of 162.11 per nine holes. Just two strokes separate Pella Christian and top-seeded Beckman Catholic, with Grundy Center and Kuemper Catholic slotting in at #2 and #3 respectively. Eagles junior Eliot Menninga comes into the tournament ranked #6 individually, while junior Deacon Branderhorst and senior Isaiah Breems enter the field ranked #26 and #27 in Class 2A. The first tee off for Pella Christian is set for 10:30 am at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.
The Eagles boys soccer team is also back in postseason action tonight, competing on the road at Class 1A #2 Iowa City Regina for the Substate 7 semifinal game. Pella Christian, who defeated Albia 3-2 in the quarterfinal, will be looking to make the substate finals for the second straight season. Tonight’s matchup between the Eagles and the Regals is the first boys soccer meeting between the schools in the Bound era. Pella Christian’s substate semifinal contest at Iowa City Regina High School is slated to start at 5 pm.
