The Pella Christian boys golf team finds themselves near the top of a tightly contested championship race, sitting in second after the first 18 holes at the 2024 Class 2A State Tournament.

Competing at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames, the Eagles shot a 307 as a team, placing them just one stroke back of top-ranked Beckman Catholic’s 306. While the Eagles are well within striking distance for the State Title, they are not alone. Grundy Center sits in third place with a team score of 308, while Columbus Catholic is fourth place with a 309.

Pella Christian was led by junior Deacon Branderhorst, who shot a 2 over par 73 to tie for 5th place individually after the first 18 holes. Junior Eliot Menninga followed close behind Deacon with a 3 over par 74 and is tied for 8th place individually. Landon Fransman and Isaiah Breems rounded out the team scoring, each shooting a 9 over par 80 on the day. Cooper Spronk and Carter Brand rounded out the Eagles varsity squad for the day with an 82 and 97, respectively.

The Eagles boys golf team will look to claim their first State Championship at 9:00 am this morning.  The tournament has been moved up to a 9:00 am shotgun start to try and beat the forecasted severe weather anticipated this afternoon and evening.
