The Indianola City Council held an at-times contentious public hearing regarding a vicious animal within city limits at their meeting Monday evening, the first time following a process laid out by the council ordinance that was set earlier this year after multiple revisions. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News this is a sensitive issue because the council has to make tough decisions regarding the welfare of the public and an animal.

“As much as it’s a great benefit to have dogs in our lives, we can’t have a situation where vicious dogs can create an unsafe environment for the children in our community and in this particular case we had some police officers who were attacked. We want to stand behind our peace officers, and we want to stand by the residents who were bitten, there were residents bitten as well. It’s always that fine line and that balance to make sure we are doing things appropriately and following the proper process.”

Reeves said the city wants to continue moving forward with the process and finding ways to refine it in the future. Hear more on today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
