It’s a daunting task, but one the Central College softball team is embracing with open arms.
Today, the 25th-ranked Dutch continue their postseason journey in McMinnville, Oregon against number one Linfield. Central avenged a loss in last year’s regional by knocking out Bethel (MN) last weekend, and enter today’s NCAA Super Regionals with a 32-11 record. The Wildcats have bludgeoned opponents on their way to a 46-1 mark.
Dutch senior third baseman Frannie Burnett is excited for the opportunity.
“Something that we’re really trying to emphasize is that we belong here too, just as much as everybody who’s earned their right to be in the super regionals. Yes, this team (Linfield) is really good, but we are as well. We’re coming in and we’re going to fight for what we want, and I think it’s going to be two really good games. Every team that we’re going to play up until the national championship game is going to be a really good team, so this is just another team closer to making it to nationals.”
The winner of the best-of-three Super Regional will advance to next week’s NCAA finals in Marshall, Texas.
First pitch today is at 6:00pm Iowa time. Game two is at 3:30pm Iowa time tomorrow, with the third game to follow, if necessary. You can hear all of the action with Trevor Castle and Kara Huisman on 92.1 KRLS.
