The Knoxville City Council approved an agreement for fire inspection services at their meeting Monday night.

These inspections used to be done in house, but with a recent vacancy for the inspector position, the fire department has had a hard time filling it. The city will be outsourcing the inspections to Iowa Inspections LLC. to get caught up on fire inspections while the fire department continues to try and fill the vacancy. Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman spoke at the city council meeting and said other communities he has spoken with, specifically Marshalltown and Newton, have had success with Iowa Inspections.

The fire department will reevaluate this agreement at six months and a year.
