The Pella Christian baseball team mounted a seventh-inning comeback to defeat Pleasantville 5-1 Wednesday night, while the Trojans softball team blanked the Eagles for a 10-0 five inning victory.

On the baseball diamond, Pleasantville got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as Brayden Kennedy’s sacrifice fly plated Braylon Bingham. The Trojans’ 1-0 lead held until the top of the seventh, when Pella Christian began their rally. Down to their final three outs, the Eagles sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring five runs on five hits, a walk, and an error. Pleasantville got a runner on with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Pella Christian recorded the final out a batter later to finish off the comeback victory. Brecken Ritzert led the Eagles offense with a 2-for-3 night at the plate, while Bingham was Pleasantville’s the top bat with his own 2-for-3 effort at the dish. Connor Van Zee picked up the win in relief for Pella Christian, throwing 2.2 innings while striking out four and allowing just one hit and one walk. Easton Cox suffered the loss in relief for the Trojans, throwing 0.1 innings and allowing three earned runs and four hits. 

After a scoreless first inning on the softball field, Pleasantville took control of the game in the middle innings. The Trojans plated their first run in the bottom of the second, then added on four more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Following a scoreless fourth inning, Pleasantville ended the game early by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run-rule win. Carly Cox recorded the win for the Trojans, striking out four in a complete-game shutout while allowing just one hit and one walk. Cox and Madilyn Rowson powered the Pleasantville offense, each going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and combining to score three runs. Laurel Roozeboom took to the loss for the Eagles, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks. Addie Van Arendonk provided Pella Christian their lone hit of the night with a second-inning single.

The Eagles baseball team improved to 3-1 overall on the season, while the Trojans dropped to 1-2. The Pleasantville softball team opens the season at 1-0 overall, while Pella Christian fell to 0-1. 

The Eagles baseball team is back in action tonight with a 7:30 pm home game against West Marshall, while the softball team returns to the diamond Friday at Des Moines Christian. Both of the Trojans squads are back at home tonight for doubleheaders with Panorama, with the baseball twinbill beginning at 5 pm and the softball games starting at 5:30 pm.
