A dominant start was all the Pella Christian baseball team needed Thursday night to improve to 4-1 on the season, downing West Marshall 10-6 on Eagle Lane.
The Eagles offense wasted no time jumping out in front of the Trojans, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning before an out was recorded and added two more runs to take an early 5-0 lead. After batting around in the first, Pella Christian again sent all nine batters to the plate in the second inning and added on their final five runs in the game to grow their advantage to 10-1. West Marshall didn’t go away easily, adding three runs in the top of the fourth and a single run in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Eagles closed the door for the four-run win. Eliot Menninga gave Pella Christian a strong six inning start, striking out nine while allowing four earned runs, six hits, and three walks. Brecken Ritzert led the Eagles offense on the night, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Tysen De Vries, Luke Fynaardt, Caleb Van Arendonk, and Trevor Veenstra combined to score eight of the ten runs on the night.
The Eagles baseball team is back in action tonight for a baseball-softball doubleheader at Des Moines Christian. First pitch of the baseball game is slated for 7 pm, while the softball game is scheduled to start at 7:15 pm.
