Indianola won the battle of Highway 92 as the Indians topped Knoxville in baseball on Thursday night 10-4 live on KNIA. The Panthers got on the board first when Dakota Ramsey singled and scored two runs to make it 2-0 Panthers, but Indianola responded with four runs in the top half of the 2nd inning and never trailed the rest of the way. The Panthers closed the gap to 6-3 in the 4th inning, but the Indians slammed the door shut with two more in the 6th and 7th innings to add some insurance. Indianola Coach Nathan Carlin told KNIA/KRLS Sports his pitching staff kept Knoxville off balance all night.
Carlin: “We got a lot of young guys in the line and we got a lot of runs. Great job by our pitchers tonight, we ran into a few problems, but they kept throwing strikes and a good team win.”
Knoxville Coach Turner Devore ,while not happy with the outcome, saw some good things in his pitching staff as he used a bullpen game to evaluate what he had.
Devore: “I thought overall pitching wasn’t too bad, we gave them a lot of free bases, and we saw them respond that maybe a young team wouldn’t respond to. We’re not happy with the outcome, but I saw some good things.”
George Blake got the win going 3 2/3 innings giving up three runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. He went 3/4 at the plate with three RBI to lead the Indians. Colton Wight took the loss for Knoxville going just an 1 1/3 giving up four runs. Luke Roozeboom and Dakota Ramsey got two hits each for Knoxville. Indianola is now 3-2 and will travel to Ames today while Knoxville drops to 2-2 and will travel to Cardinal tonight.
